Logs are peeled and reinspected for any physical defects.
Poles that meet national standards for physical properties are then graded
according to class and length. Poles are square piled to assure proper seasoning. A kiln
is also available to sterilize or dry poles prior to treatment. Seasoned poles are reinspected to ensure that they meet customer
specifications. Poles are then branded with the appropriate class, length,
species, type of treatment and date. Any necessary framing is done at this
time. The poles are then pressure treated with K-33 chromated
copper arsenate (CCA) wood preservative in a 7 by 80-foot cylinder. The
vacuum-pressure treated parameters are recorded. After treatment poles are transferred from the treating
cylinder to the fixation chamber. Poles undergo steam fixation until 100%
fixation is achieved. The treating and fixation is a closed loop that does
not allow for any unfixed poles to enter our storage yard. QC personnel take borings of each pole after treatment to
ensure that the pole meets all customer specifications. These core samples
are analyzed in an on-site lab to verify that required preservative
penetration and retention requirements have been achieved. Poles that meet quality assurance standards are moved from
drip pads to a dry kiln/fixation chamber, where they are conditioned to
ensure that the CCA preservative becomes bonded with the wood. After fixation, the poles are moved into the storage yard, where they are available for third party inspection or shipment to customers. | HOME | ABOUT
